GRAND CHOU CHOU / EXPERIENCES / INTERVIEW

Interview with Dr. Tanaka

Meeting people and culture through wine.

Dr. Michihiro Tanaka
“It is not what you drink, but who you drink with.”

A conversation with our wine lecturer, Dr. Michihiro Tanaka, about wine, travel and the pleasure of sharing.

01 / INTERVIEW

What fascinates you about wine?

The harmony of three elements: heaven, earth and people.

02 / INTERVIEW

Do you own a vineyard?

I do not own one, but I have visited many. I was particularly impressed by the vineyards on the hills beside Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

03 / INTERVIEW

Which wine regions have you visited?

France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Germany, Napa Valley and Solvang in California.

04 / INTERVIEW

What does wine mean to you?

A liquid through which I affirm my own existence. Bibo ergo sum — I drink, therefore I am.

05 / INTERVIEW

How do you recommend enjoying wine?

It is not what you drink, but who you drink with. Storage is essential for wines intended to mature, and glasses, decanters and preparation matter too.

06 / INTERVIEW

What music goes well with wine?

Jazz and classical music, especially Bach.

07 / INTERVIEW

What would you like to explore next?

I would like to continue exploring wines, particularly from the Côte de Nuits.

Selected excerpts about culture, travel and enjoyment, translated from the Japanese Grand Chou Chou interview.
